About this Event
Please join us on September 30th at 6pm for an exclusive screening of “Salvia Divinorum: A Western Perspective,” for a great cause! Salvia Divinorum is arguably the world's most powerful naturally occurring psychedelic plant. Although this plant medicine has long been revered in South American cultures, in Western society, Salvia is demonized, criminalized, and commodified. This screening will feature leading experts in the fields of plant medicine, including leading medical researcher Doctor Peter Addy, whose work is showcased in the documentary. Doctor Matthew Hicks, founder of Synaptic Integrative Care and Training Institute will also be in attendance to speak and answer questions about all things relating to psychedelic medicines.
All proceeds from this screening will benefit Synaptic Integrative Care and Training Institute’s new endeavors. Already a leader in training facilitators for ketamine-assisted therapy, Synaptic Integrative Care and Training Institute will be expanding its services in anticipation of the enactment of the Oregon Psilocybin Services Initiative and access to MDMA therapy.
We need all the support we can get as we embark on this exciting new chapter! Plant medicine should be rolled out in Oregon as equitably as possible, and to reach our goals, we need your help!
FAQs:
You mean magic mushrooms?
That’s right. Oregon is the first state to make this treatment available, with Washington and Colorado coming soon.
Clinical trials at top research institutions like Johns Hopkins and NYU have shown psilocybin assists with treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, smoking cessation, and end-of-life anxiety. The FDA has authorized the use of psilocybin as a breakthrough treatment for a variety of mental health conditions.
Why a non-profit?
To provide effective and safe psychedelic care, Oregon requires students to have over 140 hours of instruction, including 40 hours of supervised practicum. Training is expensive.
The Synaptic Institute is committed to keeping costs down for training as well as treatment, and we will continue to raise funds to subsidize training costs and offer scholarships.
What’s the proceeds from the screening for?
Legal and business startup costs.
Audiovisual equipment for distance learning.
What the HECC?
Since we are offering an official license to Oregon’s psilocybin facilitators, we need to be accredited by the state’s Higher Education Coordination Commission (yes, it really is HECC). This application alone will cost $7500, and without it, we cannot move forward.
Please consider attending this event if you'd like to see psilocybin therapy come to Oregon in an egalitarian and community-minded way. If every attendee donates $20, we will hit our goal to raise these startup costs, and be that much closer to serving our community.
