In this workshop students will learn handbuilding and surface techniques and work as a community towards an atmospheric firing. Students will learn hand building techniques to create sculptures of their choice. Topics covered will include the breakdown of a form into parts, pinching, coiling, slabs, refiring, and attachment of multiple clay pieces. Themes will include narrative in sculpture and attention to surface and texture. This workshop will discuss underglaze application in bisque firing techniques and multiple glaze firings. Once dry, the work created during the workshop can be bisque fired at the Morean Center for Clay.
The following weekend we will have a cone 6 gas firing as a group, loading and unloading the kiln as a class.
The Morean Center for Clay will have a number of glazes and slips appropriate for this firing available for use during the workshop.
