Overview:
Salsa is a partner (couple) dance, but no previous partner dance experience is needed.
We will be teaching Cross Body On1 style, which is one of the most popular styles taught in the UK. We teach in a fun, yet informative manner! So you’re guaranteed a laugh or two!
We generally rotate students in the workshop, but if you attend with a partner and would like to remain with them for the duration of the workshop, then please let us know on your arrival.
We would like to keep the leader/follower ratio as even as possible. If you can attend with a partner great, if not we will evenly match individuals. Please remember that you don’t stay with this person for the duration of the workshop, it’s just to keep the numbers balanced. Individuals, couples and groups welcome!
What we will teach:
We will teach the fundamental/foundation steps and moves, to get you moving to the Salsa rhythm.
Most people will have no partner dance experience, so we will get you moving in unison … without stepping on each other.
We will teach the basic lead and follow techniques/principles, while doing basic patterns.
We will introduce you to the wonderful sounds of Salsa music.
We will give you a fun 3 hours while you learn a new skill and you’ll still have time for your Sunday lunch afterwards!
Useful information:
You can wear whatever you like. However, you may feel more comfortable in clothes that don't restrict your movement. During the colder months, we recommend that you layer up! This is not an exercise class, so just casual clothing.
It would also be helpful to wear shoes that won't slip off or grip the floor. Trainers aren’t ideal, as they restrict your movement and could potentially cause injury. Any comfortable shoe with a smooth sole is adequate.
Your teachers:
Mal – UKA qualified Salsa Dance Teacher since 2004 and has 26 years’ experience of dancing Salsa.
Susana – Latino from birth, so has been dancing all her life!
We are both passionate about Salsa music and the dance .. we look forward to sharing our passion with you!
Disclaimer: You will not be a professional Salsa dancer after only 3 hours, but it will give you a good introduction and possibly help you decide whether it is something you would like to continue learning at your nearest local Salsa Club.
