World Champion salsa dancer Julio Morales is coming back to Boise for a special day of dance training. Students can enroll for both sessions (best value), or for just the morning or afternoon session. Each session will be two hours, for a total of four hours of training. Classes will be taught using on2 timing, a.k.a. NY style salsa. Some familiarity with dancing on2 is recommended but not required.
11AM-1PM Musicality
This class is all about the art of truly dancing with the music. We'll explore how to move with different instruments (like the conga, clave, piano, and horns), and how to express yourself during different parts of a song—from the intro, to the groove of the middle, to the big finale. You’ll learn:
• How to identify and dance with specific instruments in salsa music
• Techniques to match your movement to musical phrasing and dynamics
• How to bring storytelling into your dance for the intro, main body, and ending of a song
This workshop is perfect for dancers looking to elevate their connection to the music and stand out on the social dance floor.
1-2:00PM Lunch Break
2:00-4:00PM Essential Drills and Techniques for Social Dancing
Refine your salsa partnerwork with this hands-on workshop designed to build technique, timing, and trust on the dance floor. Whether you lead or follow, you'll walk away with tools to improve your movement, communication, and style. We’ll cover:
• Spin drills to enhance control, balance, and precision
• Partnerwork drills to sharpen responsiveness and coordination
• Connection techniques for clear, comfortable leading and following
• Creative patterns that blend technique with musicality
