What is happening to attention in an "always on" culture? In this salon, we look at Attention Ecology and the science of mindful metacognition. Expect a thoughtful conversation linking stress physiology, media, and polarization with practical ways to strengthen reflection, resilience, and more constructive dialogue across difference.


Bio

Tish Jennings, PhD, is a Professor of Education at the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development and an internationally recognized scholar in mindfulness in education, social and emotional learning, and teacher well-being. Her work focuses on how stress and attention shape teaching, learning, and classroom climate. Jennings led the development of CARE (Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education), a mindfulness based professional learning program for educators supported by large federally funded studies. She has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and several books, including the bestselling Mindfulness for Teachers. Her contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the 2023 UVA Distinguished Researcher Award, the 2018 Cathy Kerr Award for Courageous and Compassionate Science from the Mind & Life Institute, and recognition by Mindful Magazine as one of “Ten Mindfulness Researchers You Should Know.”

Salon is a monthly open dialogue on cutting-edge research related to contemplation and flourishing with UVA and local community members in the Contemplative Commons, hosted by the Contemplative Sciences Center's CIRCL: Contemplative Innovation + Research Co-Lab. Centered on a single word, these gatherings bring together scholars, scientists, and practitioners from diverse perspectives to exchange ideas, generate knowledge, and seek solutions to global challenges.


Parking

Paid parking is available across the street in the Central Grounds Parking Garage. You will need the Park Mobile App, or use the kiosk on the second floor of the parking garage to pay for your parking.
