We are very excited to announce Sahabhāva: A Community Showcase of Indian Classical Music & Dance 2026!Sahabhāva is a Sanskrit word for coexistence, community, and coming together. Originally a virtual festival which was one of the first Indian classical music and dance events to occur globally during COVID-19, ICMSV continues the concept live with the same intention - to support artists in our community and experience a breadth of artistic disciplines.
This year’s Sahabhāva boasts a diverse range of dance and musical traditions from the subcontinent, brought alive here in Vancouver. The evening opens with an Odissi recital by Sudhesna Mohapatra, followed by an exploration of Hindustānī rāgas featuring young vocalist Saanjh Jaura, accompanied by Sunny Matharu (tabla) and Mohan Bhide (harmonium).
The second half begins with Gāmaka, a unique music-and-storytelling form presented by Harshini Seetharam with Shriram Rajagopalan (violin), and concludes with a special presentation on the tradition of Gurbāṇī Rāga Kīrtan, featuring Pavitar Singh Namdhari (vocals, taarshehnai), alongside Sunny Matharu (tabla), Didar Singh Namdhari (jori), and Gurcharan Singh (supporting vocals).
Entry for the full evening is pay-what-you-can, with a minimum contribution of $20. Proceeds will go towards our artists and sustaining the organization’s future endeavours, so whatever you are able to contribute is much appreciated!
This program is presented by the Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver (ICMSV), with generous funding from the Vancouver Foundation's LEVEL BIPOC Grant.
