History Pub: The History of the Bohemia Mining DistrictSaginaw Vineyard | Wednesday, March 25 | 5:00–7:00 PM
Join us at Saginaw Vineyard for History Pub as Spirit of Bohemia Mining Days shares the long, layered story of the Bohemia Mining District—from prehistoric seas to the gold discoveries that put these mountains on the map.
We’ll start deep in time, when ancient seas and volcanic forces shaped what would become the Kalapooya Mountains and the rugged high country east of Cottage Grove. From there, we’ll move into the human story—beginning with the Indigenous presence in the region, then into the early pioneer era and the first waves of local development.
The heart of the night follows the gold era: Dr. William Oglesby’s 1850s discoveries and early activity, followed by the 1860s discoveries associated with James “Bohemia” Johnson and the momentum that eventually led to real industrial-scale mining in the decades that followed. We’ll connect the dots from discovery to boom years—how trails were cut, camps formed, ore was milled, and places like Bohemia City rose in the high country.
If you’ve ever wondered why the Bohemia District exists where it does, how it grew, and who shaped it, this is the talk.
Come early, grab a drink, and enjoy local history in a relaxed setting.
