(This event is for residents of Ely (Cambridgeshire) and surrounding villages!)Our world is changing – and so is Ely. Hotter summers, unpredictable rainfall, flooding, and growing pressures on local resources are already shaping how we live. The Ely SAFER Initiative is about turning these challenges into opportunities - to make our community stronger, safer, and more connected.
These challenges can seem daunting, but they also offer incredible opportunities for Ely to lead by example.
Being safer, stronger, and kinder, together
The Ely SAFER Initiative is about collaboration and creativity. Together, we can:
Develop community-led adaptation projects, such as warm & cool hubs, water-saving schemes, resilient gardens and green spaces…
Build stronger neighbourhood networks to support each other during major disruptions
Partner with local schools, businesses, and organisations to share skills and resources
Celebrate and strengthen Ely’s community spirit through shared learning and practical action
SAFER stands for Strategic Adaptation for Emergency Resilience – a national campaign helping local communities to become climate ready through practical, collective action. Ely SAFER is our local step in this journey.
Want to be part of Ely’s resilient future?
We’re hosting a community session to kick off the Ely SAFER Initiative.
Come along to:
Hear inspiring local stories and practical examples of resilience building
Share your ideas and priorities for Ely’s future
Find out how you can get involved – from small, simple actions to larger community projects
Meet like-minded people who care about Ely and want to make a difference.
Even if it’s a cold, dark November evening, this will be a warm and hopeful gathering — with tea, biscuits, and a shared purpose. Every resident who attends is helping to shape a safer, more connected Ely.
