About this Event

Safeguarding adults is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you are a volunteer, staff member, trustee, or community member, you may be in a position to notice signs of abuse or neglect that others do not see. This practical, supportive session helps you understand what safeguarding adults means, how abuse can present, and what to do if you are concerned.

This training is designed to build confidence in recognising concerns, responding appropriately, and understanding your duty of care under the Care Act.

What the session covers:

  • What safeguarding adults is, who it applies to, and everyone’s responsibility to act
  • Understanding the safeguarding criteria and the legal duty to report concerns
  • The different types of abuse, including self‑neglect, physical, sexual, financial, psychological, discriminatory abuse, domestic abuse, modern slavery, neglect, and organisational abuse
  • How to recognise the signs and indicators of abuse and neglect in adults with care and support needs
  • How to raise a safeguarding concern, who to report to, and what information to record
  • What happens after a concern or referral is made
  • How to respond if an adult discloses abuse, including what to say and what not to do
  • Real‑life scenarios and case examples to explore decision‑making and appropriate responses

Who is it for?

Ideal for volunteers, staff, trustees, community members, and anyone who works with or comes into contact with adults who may have care and support needs. No prior safeguarding knowledge is required, making this suitable for both new and experienced roles.

Why attend?

Abuse and neglect can happen anywhere, often hidden in plain sight. Knowing what to look for—and knowing how to act—can make a critical difference to someone’s safety and wellbeing.
