About this Event

This course covers the safeguarding policies and procedures that homelessness organisations must have in place to protect people in their services, as well as the skills and knowledge that staff need to identify and report abuse.

Timings: Module 1 - 9.30 am - 11.00 am; Module 2 12.00 pm – 1.30 pm; Module 3 - 2.30 pm – 4.00 pm

The maximum number of delegates for this course is 20. Course will be delivered virtually via Zoom.

The course will teach attendees how to recognise the signs and indicators of abuse, how to raise concerns within the latest guidelines, and how to become familiar with the terminology associated with the Care Act.

The primary focus is on safeguarding adults at risk, but the course will also cover responsibilities to safeguard children and young people (it is not designed to meet the learning requirements of a full child safeguarding course).

Who is this course for?

This course is for all frontline staff/volunteers who wish to consolidate their knowledge of safeguarding adults at risk.

What will you learn?

Through this course, you will:

  • Know the social and legislative context of protecting children and adults at risk.
  • Be able to relate the forms of abuse as defined by legislation to their work.
  • Be able to recognise signs and indicators that an adult at risk may be being abused.
  • Know how to report abuse and how to take immediate steps to protect an adult at risk.
  • Be able to explain why abuse is sometimes not reported by clients or staff.
  • Be confident in your role as an ‘alerter.’
  • Have an overview of the safeguarding process after an alert has been made, including an awareness of child and adults RAG matrix’s and effective alternatives and compliments to a formal safeguarding referral.
