About this Event
We invite you to a magical evening and a rare opportunity to open our hearts with indigenous wisdom, prayer, music and medicine. The HUNI KUIN (also known as Kaxinawá) are an ethnic group based in the lowland Amazon rainforest in the state of Acre, Brazil. They speak their own language called Hatxa Kuin and have a longstanding tradition of working with ancestral medicines such as Rume (Hapé), Kampum (Kambô) and Nixi Pae. Huni Kuin songs are prayers invoking the forces of spirits of the forest and the sacred medicines. These powerful songs of joy bring us physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Singing and listening to these ancient prayers lifts our soul and manifests healing.
KAWÁ HUNI KUIN is a young traditional healer, teacher, and musician, as well as a chosen messenger for his community. Since leaving the forest for the first time in 2018, he has traveled widely, sharing his people’s culture and raising awareness of the challenges they face. He has guested on many media platforms, including the BBC, and is a protagonist of the feature film Yupumá, directed by Verónica Castro, his friend and collaborator who will join him at this event.
Kawá will share some sacred Huni Kuin chants, as well as the ancestral medicine HAPÉ, for those that wish to receive. This is a chance to learn first hand about this powerful sacrament and how to work with it safely and respectfully.
HAPÉ (Rume reshke) is a finely ground sacred snuff, made with tobacco, medicinal plants and ashes of sacred trees. This powerful medicine has many traditional uses and carries a transformational force that heals, purifies and releases energetic blockages. The Huni Kuin use Hapé for protection, to pray and connect to their ancestors.
This is a space of respect, softness, and personal choice. The hapé ritual is entirely optional, and you are welcome to simply rest in the energy of the circle. This event is a fundraiser and proceeds from this event support Kawá's village
