As a prelude to our April Brahms production, the Green Mountain Consort will dive into a rich repertoire which we have not yet extensively explored: the 19th-century sacred song. We benefit greatly from a meticulously assembled publication, Romantik A Cappella (2018), an enormous compendium of some of the finest and most moving motets by a broad range of composers from all over the map of Europe—and beyond. Of course, you’ll hear music by German and Austrian composers, including Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Bruckner. But we’ll also present motets from further afield, including Russia (Sergei Rachmaninoff), England (Edward Elgar), and the United States (Amy Beach). Just wait until you hear this powerful music in St. Seraphim!
