About this Event
Rock Point Center and Vermont Master Naturalist are teaming up to host an elk hide rattle making workshop led by Alicia Daniel. Join us as we celebrate spring with this spirit and nature event.
This workshop will take place over three Thursday evenings in May from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
· May 7: We'll each create a pattern, cut out the rawhide, and drill holes in it.
· May 14: We'll sew and decorate the hides we have soaked and marry them to a stick handle.
· May 21: We'll finish the rattles by filling them with corn and decorating the stick, then shake them all together to celebrate their birth!
Each evening, we will hold a ceremony to honor the water, trees, corn and elk. All necessary materials will be provided. However, rattle makers are encouraged to gather their own personal materials between sessions, including beads, beaver sticks, leather lacing, etc. to make the rattle even more meaningful and sacred to them.
Take part in community. Use your hands to make something of beauty. Honor the spirit and nature within and around us.
Note: Tickets for this event are offered at three sliding scale rates. Please choose whichever one fits your budget.
