Love singing? Fancy trying Sacred Harp?If you know The Watersons, Sam Carter, Swan Arcade, Brown Wimpenny, you’ll have heard the raw, rousing harmonies of Sacred Harp.
Originating in America in the early 1800s, it drew on the hymns and folk tunes of the time. Fast forward to 2026 and there's a large singing community in the UK, belting out shapenote songs ancient and modern, just for fun.
All voices are welcome. We are an inclusive community.
It’s very democratic. There’s no choir leader. Anyone can lead a song of their choice.
Unity is the aim. There are no solos. We don’t practise, we don’t perform, we just sing. For ourselves, for each other, and for the joy of singing together. Really really loud.
We sing seated. Hallé St Peter’s is good for wheelchair access.
