Meteorologist Rob Carlmark gives the forecast for crazy weather patterns and explains terms like cyclone bombs, firenados and haboobs.About this Event
Hi, this is Vanessa, your ENLIGHTENMENT salon host.
Shall we talk about the weather for this month’s “Sacramento Science on Tap?” From atmospheric rivers and bomb cyclones to “firenados” and El Niño vs. La Niña, California is always experiencing some weird weather event. So, in this time of extreme climate change, what’s on the horizon?
For this discussion, I’ve invited , to tell us what we would should know about ever-changing weather patterns. Growing up surfing and skiing, and trying to figure out where to be to catch the best waves or powder, it was obvious he would have a career in forecasting the weather. Rob has seen and experienced almost everything, from 25 below zero temperatures to 118-degree heat, and blizzards, twisters and haboobs (violent dust storms).
Join me for a conversation with Rob as he explains meteorology, what it takes to forecast the weather, how often he gets it right, does it really matter about whether it’s an El Niño or La Niña winter, and more.
Please bring your questions — nothing is too dumb, too small or too big to ask!
Tickets are $10. I’ll bring some drinks and snacks; please feel free to BYO.
