Two films with granddaughter and producer - Jennifer Takaki | Q&A session with her sons Mel Takaki and Alan Takaki
Online Tickets close at 5:45PM - tickets are still available upon walk in
Sachi Takaki was a master of the delicate and the cosmic, transforming the ancient tradition of Japanese paper arts into a sophisticated modern language that earned her a featured place in the 2007 Japanese Jewels exhibition series at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center. While she was widely recognized for her technical precision in origami, her gallery work in the second-floor foyer revealed a deeper, more experimental mastery of texture and light. Using various weights of handmade paper that she often stained to capture an inner glow, she created intricate abstract collages that functioned as ethereal landscapes.
This creative process was a spiritual dialogue with the universe, drawing inspiration from celestial bodies like the sun, moon, and stars to craft pieces that felt both ancient and timeless. Her artistic philosophy was rooted in a profound humility toward her medium; she famously maintained that the true beauty resided within the paper itself, and her role was simply to manipulate it with enough grace to let that inherent elegance shine through. This artistic legacy was the capstone of a century-long connection to the Pueblo community, where she remained a vital cultural figure until her passing in 2018 at the age of 100.
Please Join us for the showing of two films with granddaughter and producer - Jennifer Takaki, and a Q&A session following up after the films with her sons, Mel Takaki and Alan Takaki. Complimentary snacks will be served. Beverages and family recipe Kamari will be available for purchase.
