Each regular SAS meeting begins with a guest speaker presentation, followed by our monthly auction. We also hold a raffle and have a sales table with club merchandise and fish bagging supplies available for members and guests. The Sacramento Aquarium Society is thrilled to welcome back Ryan Chan as the guest speaker for our January meeting! Last time he taught us how to breed Amano Shrimp, this time his talk will be about “Breeding the Cardinal Tetra”.
In this presentation Ryan will guide you through how to successfully breed Cardinal Tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi). Starting with how to raise healthy broodstock, sexing males and females, leading into his ideal breeding setups and finally to raising the fry. Ryan will also cover how breeding setups differ for similar egg scattering tetras and speak on his experience breeding Neon, Green Neon, and Rummynose tetras. The session ends with practical troubleshooting tips and Q&A.
BIOGRAPHY:
Ryan Chan’s fascination with fish started in 6th grade when his father took him to Petco and purchased a 10 gallon kit and a singular, very, very pregnant guppy. Ever since then, his room has not been without the steady hum of air pumps and his floors have not been dry since. He last spoke to the San Francisco Aquarium Society in the summer of 2023, where he presented on the process of breeding Amano Shrimps, and now returns to share his insights on breeding Cardinal Tetras.
