About this Event
The Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies proudly presents the NJCU Jazz Ensemble, one of New Jersey’s most dynamic collegiate big bands, led by acclaimed trumpeter, composer, and educator Nathan Eklund. Known for its precision, energy, and fearless approach to contemporary and classic repertoire, the ensemble brings a powerful sound shaped by NJCU’s deep jazz tradition.
Joining them for this special performance is the incomparable Abraham Burton, a master saxophonist celebrated for his fiery tone, emotional depth, and commanding presence on the modern jazz scene. Burton’s artistry—rooted in the lineage of Jackie McLean yet unmistakably his own—adds a thrilling solo voice to the ensemble’s rich textures.
Together, Eklund, Burton, and the NJCU Jazz Ensemble deliver a dynamic night of swing, soul, and modern jazz, showcasing the next generation of rising artists alongside one of today’s most compelling saxophone voices.
