Experience an extraordinary evening of jazz mastery as the Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies presents internationally acclaimed pianist Edsel Gomez—one of today’s premier voices in Latin jazz.
Born in Puerto Rico and shaped by a lifetime immersed in Afro‑Caribbean rhythm and global musical traditions, Gomez began playing piano at age five and has since built a career defined by innovation, depth, and cultural fusion. A Grammy‑nominated artist for his album Cubist Music, Gomez has collaborated with legends including Celia Cruz, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Don Byron, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and many more.
His performances are celebrated for their rhythmic fire, lyrical sensitivity, and seamless blending of jazz with Afro‑Caribbean and world influences—a sound that continues to push the music forward.
