Miffy Wang began playing piano at age seven. Since 2017, she has studied with Shan Deng, Senior Lecturer in Keyboard at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music. Miffy completed her Bachelor of Music in 2024 on a full scholarship and is now undertaking Honours, supported by the UTAS Honours Scholarship and under the guidance of Shan Deng, Karen Smithies, and Arabella Teniswood-Harvey. She has also received mentorship from Alexey Yemtsov.
Miffy is the recent winner of the prestigious OSSA Music Prize (valued at $13,000), which included a fully funded solo piano tour across regional Tasmania. Her other accolades include: First Prize in the Hobart Eisteddfod Open Piano Recital, the Royal Overseas League Tasmanian Branch Prize in Classical Piano (2022, 2023), the Margaret Stoermer Prize for Best Third Year-Performer, the TMTA Graeme Buchanan Award, and the Susan Williams Prize. Miffy holds both the AMusA and LMusA diplomas from the AMEB. She gave her first public recital in 2021 and made her concerto debut in 2024 under renowned conductor Simon Reade.
Alongside solo performance, Miffy enjoys playing in chamber ensembles, orchestras and musical theatre. She was a member of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and has performed in productions such as Mamma Mia and The Addams Family. As a collaborative pianist, Miffy has accompanied students at the Hutchins School and Hobart College.
An passionate music educator, Miffy teaches privately, completed a placement at Rosny College, and is a member of the Tasmanian Music Teachers Association. In her free time, she enjoys walking and spending time with her cat.
