RUN MCLAREN VALE CANCELLED FOR 2026.Following an amazing event in the heart of McLaren Vale this year and despite us withdrawing the marathon distance to reduce road closures from 6 hours to 3 hours, the City of Onkaparinga have advised that they do not support our proposed courses and traffic management plans for Run McLaren Vale in 2026.
Great Southern Runs prides itself on delivering premium events with runner experience at the centre of everything we do. If you ran in this year's McLaren Vale Marathon or Victor Harbor Half Marathon you will have experienced this first hand.
We do not wish to compromise these principles and organise an event which does not meet our high standards on a course which is not as flat, fast, scenic and as safe it can be.
I am at a loss to understand how marathon events can be organised in Sydney, London, Tokyo, New York, Melbourne, Ballarat, or the Great Ocean Road yet we cannot close a few roads around McLaren Vale for 3 hours on a Sunday morning in winter?
I am sorry if you will have to change your 2026 race plans as a result of this situation and decision.
