The 2026 Run for Recovery takes place on Friday, June 12, at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo.Run for Recovery is an annual community run and walk that brings people together in support of individuals and families impacted by addiction and mental health challenges. It is an evening focused on movement, connection, and compassion, and a reminder that recovery is possible.
Whether you choose to run, walk, sponsor, donate, volunteer, or cheer from the sidelines, your involvement helps create real change.
Why We Run
This year’s Run for Recovery is raising funds for New Start Foundation for Addiction and Mental Health.
New Start Foundation helps ensure timely access to life‑changing treatment for people who are ready to recover but face financial barriers. The Foundation supports individuals who may have housing, family or social support, or employable skills, but cannot afford private care and cannot wait for public services.
Funds raised through Run for Recovery are used to provide treatment grants at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo, helping close the gap between urgent need and immediate care. Through its partnership with EHN Canada, New Start Foundation also receives a contribution back from treatment programs, amplifying the impact of every dollar raised.
Additional Community Support
In addition to fundraising, we will be collecting personal care items for individuals receiving care at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo. Items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, and other basic necessities make a meaningful difference for those entering treatment.
Who Can Participate
Everyone is welcome.
This event is open to individuals in recovery, friends and family members, healthcare and support professionals, local businesses and community groups, and anyone who believes in compassion, connection, and second chances.
Virtual participation
If you are unable to attend in person, you can still take part through our virtual Run for Recovery option.
Virtual participants complete a 6 km run or walk on event day, from wherever they are. Whether you are elsewhere on Vancouver Island, elsewhere in the province, or across the country, this option allows you to participate in a way that works for you.
All you need to do is complete your 6 km on June 12 and record your time. Virtual participation helps ensure that everyone who wants to support recovery can be part of the event, regardless of location.
No matter how you participate, you are helping build a stronger and more supportive community.
