One of the best parts of roleplaying games is the chance to make a character your own. But sometimes we get so caught up in the mechanics of whatever system we are working in that we forget about the importance of backstory! Of course, the options available in any system offer fun details about who a character is, but how did they get there? This workshop uses Erikson's theory of human development to create more robust character backstories as it relates to things like core beliefs, mental health, and more. Whether your character is a struggling bard who wants to be famous or a righteous paladin who wants to smite the undead wizard, there's always a why. This workshop will help you find your character's why in an inclusive space of fellow RPG nerds, both new and experienced. It will be run by Zackary Gentry, Suicide Prevention Coordinator at Bay State Community Services.
While this workshop will allow you to develop a backstory for a character, we ask that you bring your own character sheet or sign up to get a pre-made character sheet. If the latter, library staff will follow up with you to generate a basic, level 5 D&D character. If the former, any level and any system is welcome (e.g. Pathfinder, Vagabond, etc.) - but it should be a character you haven't played before so you can get the most out of this workshop.
This workshop is open to adults 18+.
