Pianist, composer and 2022 graduate of Berklee College of Music, Royce Martin was born and grew up in St. Louis. At 14, he taught himself to play the piano on a small keyboard. He worked as the in-house pianist and lecturer at the Scott Joplin State Historic Site between semesters at Berklee. Royce returned to St. Louis to record an album of a dozen Joplin classics for his debut album Memories on Morgan Street: Scott Joplin Reimagined. It was this record that brought him to the attention of John McWhorter.
Royce has provided original music for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special on MAX, Hulu’s Mormon No More, and most recently completed a full feature length score for MAX documentary They Called Him Mostly Harmless.
In this concert, Royce Martin brings his exceptional talents as a player and composer to the music of the holidays, of Winter Solstice and Christmastide, with classics and favorites in jazz, ragtime and classical impressionism. He also shows us his talents as an in-demand composer for the movies and streaming.
