Rowan and Friends began on the 30th of March 2022 when Rowan Evans started his monthly residency at the Golden Ball Pub in York.
Since then, many different musicians have played with him and he has played with many different musicians, but his core principle stays the same: “I write songs and sing them with my friends”.
Rowan writes lyric-driven songs in the tradition of songwriters like Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields), and John Darnielle (The Mountain Goats). His guitar playing and singing draws from neo-folk artists like Richard Dawson and Neutral Milk Hotel, as well as from Cosmic American Music, from artists like Gram Parsons and Judee Sill.
His band is made up of a rotating cast of friends who collaborate with him live and on a number of recording projects which include his debut album Rock N Roll Super Powers, and his EP 5 Golden Greats. His next album, Go On! Roll That Old Boulder Away will be released on the 25th of March 2026 via Bandcamp and direct download.
