About this Event

Thank you very much for you interest in participating in the roundtable discussion, exploring the intersections of oral histories and creative methods, with special guests Juana Francis Bone and Leisy Lorena Valdez, feminist social activists visiting from Ecuador, representing the Mujeres de Asfalto collective and partners of the RECLAMA project.

This interdisciplinary session aims to bring together PGR and ECR researchers engaging with oral histories, life history approaches and creative and participatory methods, especially in collaboration with grassroots and civil society organisations. Working across the arts, humanities, and social sciences, it will provide an opportunity to share experiences and insights regarding the challenges and successes of working with these methods, and the transformative potential that is offered by bringing these methods into dialogue in research and practice.

The roundtable will explore the following questions:

How and why have you integrated oral histories into your research?

What are the benefits and challenges of bringing together oral histories and creative methods?

What potential do these approaches offer for decolonising dominant narratives?

How do you navigate ethical considerations when collecting oral histories or employing creative methods, particularly in sensitive or vulnerable contexts?

This will be an in-person session on Friday 21st of June from 11.00 to 12.30pm, at Sandyford Building, room 304D, Northumbria University City Campus.
