About this Event
Come on out and help The Rotary Club of Uxbridge prepare the Steve Snoddon Mini Forest.
DATE: Saturday, June 13, 2025
TIME: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
LOCATION: 57 Elgin Park Dr, Uxbridge, ON L9P 0C2
Parking: Ample free parking on site
What we'll be doing: We'll be laying down cardboard, compost, and mulch to prepare the site for the eventual planting of approximately 800 trees and shrubs later in the fall. These materials will be left to settle over the next few months, creating a nutrient-rich site for the tree planting event on October 24, 2026
What is a Mini Forest?
A mini forest is a densely planted community of native trees and plants in an area the size of a tennis court. Using the Miyawaki planting method, mini forests tend to grow faster, sequester more carbon, and promote more biodiversity than conventionally planted urban trees.
Steve Snoddon was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge and a visionary community leader. He spearheaded the creation of the Uxbridge Rotary Skate Park and the Optimist Pump Track, and volunteered countless hours with the Durham Mountain Bike Association and Uxbridge Trails Committee. In honour of his contributions to Uxbridge, we dedicate this mini forest to our friend, Steve.
What will we be doing?
We'll be preparing our 4th mini forest site in Uxbridge, by laying down cardboard, compost, and mulch. These materials will be left to settle over the next few months, creating a nutrient-rich site for the tree planting event on October 24, 2026.
No experience necessary and all ages are welcome!
Note: This is a physical activity that may require lifting materials up to 10kg - please be aware of your limitations.
