ABOUT SUSIE FERRELL
Susanna Ferrell is the Wynn Resorts Associate Curator of Chinese Art, with a specialty in contemporary art from the Sinosphere. Since joining LACMA in 2016, she has worked on shows including The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China, Ink Dreams: Selections from the Fondation INK Collection, Legacies of Exchange: Chinese Contemporary Art from the Yuz Foundation, Zheng Chongbin: Golden State and Line, Form, Qi: Calligraphic Art from the Fondation INK Collection. Her research interests include identity in digital spaces, feminist ecologies and the agency of nature, mental and physical health, and art games.
ABOUT STEPHANIE SHIH
Stephanie Shih (史欣雲) is a photo-based multidisciplinary artist and Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Southern California. Drawing from her cognitive science research, Shih co-opts and recodes the symbolic systems of the art-historical still life canon to investigate the construction of contemporary diasporic identities and experiences in the U.S. Shih has completed residencies at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Oak Spring Garden Foundation, Museums at Washington and Lee University, and Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency. Her recent solo exhibitions include Little Eats at Candela Gallery + Books, LONG TIME NO SEE at Museums at Washington and Lee University, and FLOURISH at Los Angeles Center of Photography. Shih’s work has been featured in outlets including Lenscratch, Gastronomica, Audubon Magazine, Buzzfeed News, and Los Angeles Times.
ABOUT ROSKI TALKS
The USC Roski School’s Roski Talks lecture series offers engaging weekly presentations from leading visual artists, design innovators, scholars, performance artists, architects, and other influential figures throughout the academic year. These events are a popular among the Roski community and frequently attract members of the public.
Held in an intimate setting, Roski Talks encourage audience participation and open dialogue. Each session concludes with lively group discussions and Q&A opportunities.
