Bengal, our homeland, the indigenous cultural heritage which is still very much a part of our diasporic identity, has its linguistic, artistic and societal foundation in our fertile soil. Our consciousness rooted in the history and our rich legacy of Bengal, has been enriched over the years not only by numerous authors, intellectual artists, thinkers, but also by the awakening of our minds caused by Bengal’s historic Renaissance movement. ‘Roots of Bengal’, our collaborative initiative will celebrate this rich legacy, through which we pay our homage to the quintessential Bengal Renaissance spirit.
Commemorating Bengal’s own Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and his worthy successor, the rebel poet, writer, and composer Kazi Nazrul Islam, our presentations in poetry, music, and dance will celebrate the evocative and mystical spirit of Tagore alongside the fiery passion and devotion of Nazrul. Cinematic storytelling brings to life the enduring legacy of Satyajit Ray, whose works continue to shape and stir our collective imagination.
Our objective is to present the glimpses of the timeless creations of these three literary and artistic giants born in the soil of Bengal, while also merging the spirit of Baul and folk traditions which lies at the core of our ‘Bangaliyana’.
