Roots & Culture celebrating 15 years Part TwoWe are excited and proud to announce our 15th anniversary year, Part Two!
This edition we are moving from the Zappa hall to Trix Muziekcentrum.
We were asked to celebrate part two together with Time To Dub Soundsystem at this location.
For this first collaboration we have chosen to invite two UK legends.
None other than Manasseh, a veteran who as a producer has built up the current Soundsystem, UK Dub scene since mid 80s.
During these years he recorded tracks with another great artist, Earl Sixteen.
This singer needs no introduction. A career that spans 50 years of Reggae!
Known to the wider public as a guest singer with Leftfield and as a singer with Dreadzone.
His first recordings date back to 1975 when he worked with producers such as Lee Scratch Perry and Joe Gibbs.
The album 'Showcase' was released on Studio One in 1985. To this day one of his strongest albums.
After a short period in the United States, Earl moved to the United Kingdom. London to be precise.
Since then, the producers he worked with are countless and impossible to name them all.
Mad Professor, Gussie P, Disciples, Conscious sounds to name a few.
In Belgium there was also the collaboration for a 12" with Unlisted Fanatic.
And then there is also his own label Merge. His most famous collaboration with Manasseh was also released on this label:
Natural Roots and also on the Manasseh Label, Riz Records in 1992
Manasseh is one of the UK Dub pioneers who has been active in the UK scene since 1985.
Riz records was the first label with which he released music independently. Founded by Gil Cang, Eddie Joseph and Mak Gilchrist and of course also Nick Manasseh in 1990.
In 1989 there were also the releases on the Mr. Modo label.
Collaborations with Tena Stelin, Bob Skeng (Education) and Orville Smith (Leaving Rome), Admiral Tibet (Permission) were a great success and partly because of this he was discovered by the major labels such as Acid Jazz, Sony & Columbia.
In 1992 he released the song Natural Roots together with Earl 16, which is still an anthem in the UK Dub scene.
Time To Dub will provide the warm-up after which Manasseh and Earl 16 will fill the evening with an extra, extra long set!
