About this Event
Step into rooted, a celebration that marks the beginning of Gather & Ground (follow @gather.n.ground) - an invitation to pause, connect, and reimagine what’s possible when we gather with intention.
Although Gather & Ground is aimed at women, this particular event is an open house where we welcome your children (book free child's ticket), partners and friends to discover Gather & Ground together with you.
An Afternoon of Community, Care, Culture & Connection
From the moment you arrive inside the cosy geodome at Birmingham Settlement, you’ll be warmly greeted and invited to break bread with a heartwarming vegan lunch served from 1:30 PM, alongside a selection of drinks, including a complimentary organic turmeric tea by Divine Tea (we promote circular economy by encouraging you to bring you favourite mug to avoid disposable waste).
At 2:00 PM, we will come together sharing a meal and introductions, as we discuss the mission and values of Gather & Ground - an organization dedicated to fostering a world where social and ecological justice intersect. Together, we’ll explore our vision of creating inclusive, healing spaces that honor women, nature, and community.
Collaborative Community Circle:
Rooted in Justice
At the heart of rooted is the chance to co-create the future of Gather & Ground. In a guided discussion, 'rooted in Justice', we’ll explore:
- What does thriving sisterhood look like for women of colour?
- How can we nurture communal healing through the lenses of ecological, economic, racial, gender, disability and social justice?
Using prompts designed to inspire, this conversation will help shape upcoming Gather & Ground programming.
Sisters’ Skills Audit
Inspired by MAIA [a visionary and brilliant collaborator in the community, with whom we've partnered with] we will conduct a Sisters’ Skills Audit - a collective mapping of the talents, strengths, and expertise within our community. This exercise will help us identify ways to meet our needs collectively, harnessing the abundance that already surrounds us.
Rooted in the Elements: Pop-Up Wood-Fired Sauna Experience
Step into the @warmsaunabrum’s pop-up wood-fired horse-box sauna, exclusively available to Gather & Ground guests from 2.30PM with a pre-booked Sauna Deposit ticket. Reconnect with fire, water, earth & air in this unique immersive experience designed to help you pause, breathe deeply, and ground yourself in the elements. A breakout geodome will be available between sauna sittings during the hour with calm music and complimentary drinks. Please read FAQs for more info below.
Rooted in Resistance: Capoeira with Denise Amory
At 2:45 PM, join talented dancer and Capoeirista Denise Amory for a session on the African-derived art of capoeira—a practice born from resistance and self-expression. Denise will share capoeira’s rich history, teach us a few traditional songs, and guide us through gentle movements. This session is open to all ages and abilities, offering a chance to connect with this empowering tradition.
Campfire Closing Circle
As the afternoon winds down, we’ll gather around a crackling campfire at 3:30 PM to toast marshmallows and share reflections. Together, we’ll welcome dusk and close the event with warmth, connection, and gratitude.
Exclusive Early Bird 2025 Sign Up
We’ll give a preview of next year’s Rewilding Events, inspired by the elements of water, fire, earth, and air, and rooted in the story of the River Rea, 'the Mother of Birmingham'. Guests will have the opportunity to sign up for exclusive early bird tickets to these transformational experiences.
