AFRICA VIBES is a workshop series hosted by YENSA Festival, inviting Black Women instructors to share their knowledge of movements connected to the African diaspora with the community.

After a successful first year of programming, YENSA Festival is excited to announce its AFRICA VIBES Fall series: Rooted & Rising!
Join us as we welcome Chenise Mitchell, who will guide participants through Jazz and its deep connections to African dance and rhythms, and Lua Shayenne, who has been deeply engaged in intensive training this year and is eager to share her growth and passion for West African dance.
This season offers a unique opportunity to LEARN, CONNECT, and CELEBRATE the roots and evolution of dance.
With 4 workshops in the series, you can register for a single class, or save money with our 2 and 4 class packages!
Dances & Rhythms of Africa with Lua Shayenne
Lua Shayenne, based in Toronto, Canada, is a dedicated student of traditional Mandé dances and rhythms. Her dance workshops seamlessly integrate song, cultural insights, and live percussion, catering to participants of all skill levels. Through the grounded movement of dances from Africa, Lua Shayenne invites you to celebrate your body as the Temple of the spirit, intimately connected to Mother Earth. Together we explore Breath, Ground, Inner Rhythm and Current.
This dance workshop will offer an ALL-LEVELS experience with LIVe drum accompaniement.
