Ronnie Ortiz, Jr. Field Naming Ceremony
We are thrilled to invite you to a truly special moment for our community!
On Sunday, June 21 at 12:00 PM, we will gather at McCarren Park Field 2 to celebrate the official naming of the “Ronnie Ortiz, Jr. Field.”
This is more than just a ceremony—it’s a celebration of life, legacy, and the lasting impact Ronnie had on everyone around him.
The event is free and open to the public, and we encourage all friends, families, and community members to join us.
Our Story
On September 14, 2022, we lost our dear friend Ronnie Ortiz, Jr. to a tragic act of gun violence and mistaken identity. He was just 30 years old, only days away from his 31st birthday.
Ronnie was a cornerstone of the McCarren Park softball community—an incredible player, a leader, and someone whose energy, kindness, and spirit brought people together.
Our Mission
What started as an unspeakable tragedy has been transformed into a shared dream of hope, love and positivity, and it has now become a powerful reality. Through years of dedication and community support, we’ve officially gotten approval to name the field where Ronnie spent so much time doing what he loved after him.
This field will now stand as a permanent tribute to Ronnie’s life and the joy he brought to so many.
We want to celebrate with YOU and to all the people who made this happen from Kelly to Lincoln to the Parks and Waterfront Committee. THANK YOU!!
About The Pursuit – Ronnie Ortiz, Jr. Foundation
In Ronnie’s honor, we created to carry forward his spirit. Over the past three years, the foundation has:
- Hosted youth baseball and softball clinics
- Organized community events and group outings
- Invested in improving local park spaces
- Built an inclusive, welcoming environment for all
By naming the field after Ronnie, we will remember the positive energy he brought to all our lives by creating a safe place for adults, children, families and people of all walks of life to play the sport he loved and by doing this we will have honored the true memory of Ronnie and brought the neighborhood closer together and to continue chasing the Pursuit of Happiness.
Donations
If you’d like to support the foundation and help continue this important work, donations are welcome. 100% of proceeds are tax-deductible and go directly toward community programming and youth initiatives in Ronnie’s name.
Come celebrate with us, share in this moment, and help us honor Ronnie in the place he loved most!
