This week's Friday band night is a special after-party for the Comedy Festival, with a very special guest to entertain us - Ronnie Golden (a.k.a. Tony De Meur)Golden flits effortlessly from musical impersonation to hilarious one-liners; from self-penned songs to the gobsmackingly bizarre.
"Funny as hell" - Daily Express
"A very appealing hour...well spent in good company" ★★★★ One4Review
"An excellent musical mimic who can slip, like a golden-larynxed chameleon, into any style he chooses" - Daily Mail
Ronnie Golden's CV reads like a who's who, not just of British comedy but also of rock and roll. As a teenage guitarist, he worked with such musical legends as Tom Jones, Scott Walker, Engelbert Humperdinck and even David Bowie before forming cult late 70s renegade band Fabulous Poodles, whose album Mirror Stars outsold both The Clash and The Jam in America in the early 80's.
Within a few short weeks of that band's demise he was a founder member of the equally legendary Comic Strip alongside Rik Mayall, Ben Elton, French and Saunders and Alexei Sayle and appeared as Buddy Holly in the first series of The Young Ones.
A regular member of the Spitting Image team, he betrayed his musical roots to finally get his first number one single on The Chicken Song/We're Scared Of Bob. He's played an MI6 agent alongside Pierce Brosnan and Michael Caine in the 1986 movie 'The Fourth Protocol'.
On the stand-up circuit, for many years his regular sparring partner was Barry Cryer, to the delight of many an audience and sell-out Edinburgh Fringe crowd.
