The Latin American Philharmonic, under the direction of maestro Glenn Garrido, presents a captivating romantic performance showcasing some of Latin America’s most iconic rhythms, including salsa, danzón, cumbia, tango, joropo, merengue, ranchera, and more. Each program is elevated by the presence of distinguished national and international guest artists, enhancing the artistic excellence of the experience.The orchestra, composed of musicians from 5 different continents, was founded by American-Venezuelan maestro Glenn Garrido. Maestro Garrido was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He received his BS in Industrial Engineering from University of Zulia (Venezuela) and BA in Music Performance from Simon Bolivar Conservatory (Venezuela); Master in Conducting from the University of New Hampshire (Durham, NH); and PhD in Music Education from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL).
In the year 2000, Garrido became the first Venezuelan to receive the degree of PhD in Music Education with emphasis in conducting. In 1998 and 2000 he received the “Outstanding Academic Award” from the College of Fine Arts at the University of Florida.
The Houston Latin Phil was founded on October 12, 2012, with three important goals: to perform, commission, and record Latin American music, making it accessible to all segments of society, especially the Latin American community; to promote greater understanding of Latin American culture and its people, including inspiring new generations of Latin Americans; and to strengthen social unity through public concerts, lectures, young artist competitions, and music workshops.
