Second Remember the Ladies Presentation
About this Event

Remember the Ladies: Roles of Women in the War for Independence As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation this year, we unfortunately find that women are often overlooked in history books. “Well-behaved women seldom make history” is a well=known quote from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich that underlines this issue. This year, the ladies of Southeast Mercantile want to celebrate women and their lives during the revolution. This second of a series of presentations will focus on how the war affected women in the Carolina's and their roles during our War of Independence.

Colleen L. Pappas will be our featured speaker for this second program. She is the proprietor of Herstory Handcrafts, and has been studying women’s history in the 18th and 19th centuries for well over 50 years. Her professional background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with a focus on American history from the founding of our nation through the mid-19th century. She also holds a Master of Library Science Degree and a Master of Arts degree in Adult and Community Education. These three areas of education and expertise combine to form the perfect hobby of living history, which she has passionately researched and enjoyed for over 30 years.

Admission is $10 per person, with $5 of each admission going to the Rowan Museum to support their work in preserving and presenting the history of Rowan County. If you wish to make an additional donation to the museum at the event, we will be accepting donations on site. There is a limit of 25 seats available for this presentation.
