THE TATTOOED PORTRAITS SERIES: TWO DECADES, AN OVERVIEW

This March, experience an exhibition of selected works by Shawn Barber and celebrate twenty years of The Tattooed Portraits Series.

Since 2005, Barber has documented contemporary tattoo culture through an ongoing collection of more than five hundred paintings portraying the artists who have pioneered and shaped modern tattooing. What began as an obsessive dedication to painting tattooed artists evolved into a lifelong immersion in the craft itself, ultimately leading Barber to become a tattooist in addition to a painter.

A graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design (B.F.A., 1999) and Cazenovia College (A.A.S., 1997), Barber has spent over twenty-five years teaching drawing, painting, and the business of art. His work is held in private collections across the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe, and Australia.

This special showcase offers a rare overview of two decades of dedication to documenting the evolution of contemporary tattoo art through the language of fine art portraiture.
