Roger Watson has more than four decades of national & international folk music experience as a musician, singer, songwriter & dance caller best known for his work with Muckram Wakes & the New Victory Band from 1971 – 81. He was also responsible for melodeon and concertina tutors first published in 1980 (still selling!) He founded the folk development organisation Traditional Arts Projects (TAPS), which was dedicated to valuing and continuing the developmental process of tradition as part of its preservation.
The workshop will cover an examination of how different versions of traditional songs may have come about and how songwriters with a knowledge of old songs can make their own personal and contemporary versions, and create new songs using elements of traditional ones.
