Join Mary McNamara Bersten, Rockford Area Arts Council Executive Director, for a presentation on public art in Rockford on Wednesday, May 6, at 2:00 PM, sponsored by WELCA. All are welcome to join this free event. A freewill donation will be collected.Mary McNamara Bernsten, the Executive Director of the Rockford Area Arts Council, will speak to the importance and impact of public art in the Rockford community. The term “public art” may conjure images of historic bronze statues of a soldier on horseback in a park. Today, public art can take a wide range of forms, sizes, and scales—and can be temporary or permanent. It often interprets the place's history and its people, and perhaps addresses a social or environmental issue. Public art can include murals, sculpture, memorials, integrated architectural or landscape architectural work, community art, digital new media, and even performances and festivals!
