What do we have to show for all the millions we pay them?These are questions reverberating around the country as rates rises go through the roof, compounding local issues, causing frustration around 5G, Fluoride, SNAs etc.
With credit ratings negative trending, these so-called public benefit entities claim administration rights over all our local assets and borrow via the LGFA (NZ Local Government Funding Agency) through debt capital, increasingly from offshore investors in the form of bonds and debentures.
After more than 10 years of LGFA borrowing, many Councils now have debt burden in the hundreds of millions, and some in the billions, and are guarantors for LGFA debt.
Introducing Challenging Councils NZ and its founder, Mark Quinn. With 35 years of experience travelling the country to troubleshoot businesses and companies helping them run more efficiently, Mark brings a down-to-earth facts-based approach to simplify the issues and establish realistic pathways to hold the obligated accountable and challenge fiscal irresponsibility within District and Regional Councils.
Established in 2024 by men and women from all over the country seeing a common issue, Challenging Councils NZ today has a core group working in the background able to wrap around issues as a virtual team, and is touring the country from June to December 2024, bringing locals together to meet, discuss, unite, stand and work together on realtime effective solutions.
Mark says "it's heartening and not surprising to see how many small groups are rising up - time to unite, find the fraud and any illegal activities to challenge the Councils".

Ultimately we all have a responsibility to challenge Councils over financial irresponsibility, excessive borrowing and operating expenditure with public money.
