This course is designed for those taking their first steps into outdoor rock climbing. The goal is to build safe habits and a strong foundation in movement, rope handling, and partner communication.
The course is composed of two afternoon sessions (from 17:00-21:00) at a local climbing crag close to Reykjavík.
We start by learning how to belay safely, manage the rope, and use climbing equipment correctly. As the course progresses, participants practice movement skills on rock, focusing on balance, foot placement, and efficient technique. Under close supervision, we introduce easy lead climbing on bolted routes, helping you understand how to clip quickdraws and manage rope systems while leading.
The course also covers how to set up and manage top-rope anchors, including basic checks and safety principles used in outdoor climbing.
The course will cover the following topics:
Communication between climbers
Basic knots and hitches
