Join us for a relaxed screening of an animated adventure, as a dog and a robot experience adventures and misfortunes in 1980's NYC in this animated comedy. Preceded by a fun and accessible creative activity for all ages.

FILM: Robot Dreams / 2023 / 1hr 43mins / Rated PG / Subtitled

Living a solitary life and longing for fun and excitement, Dog sends off for a robot friend. When it arrives, the two make an immediate connection and Dog’s life is transformed. A trip to the park sees the two displaying disco dancing moves that Travolta could only dream of, but an unexpected event threatens their friendship. It’s down to Dog to ensure that his rich new life can continue.

Told entirely without dialogue, Robot Dreams, which has been nominated for an Academy award and won the European Film Award for European Animated Film, is joyful and thought-provoking in equal measure, skilfully delivering its message to young and old alike.

“Robot Dreams is not just one of the finest animations of recent years; it’s also one of the most persuasive love letters to the city of New York.” - Wendy Ide, The Guardian

See this stunning animation on the big screen in a unique, pop-up film experience.

WORKSHOP: Diorama Dreams - with Artist Facilitator Esther Marshall

One of the most interesting aspects of Robot Dreams are it’s rich backgrounds and foregrounds, in this case. The setting of New York City is a character too. The locations often take priority over the main characters, giving insight into the lives surrounding our heroes! Echoing these interesting decisions, we’ll create dioramas and pop-up paper scenes to learn about world building, composition and how adding depth adds intrigue. In this session, the characters will come last!

Our affordable charity cafe-bar with refreshments and popcorn will be open throughout.

This film is rated PG, for more guidance please check the BBFC website.

Relaxed screenings are designed to create a more comfortable and accessible cinema experience for individuals with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other needs that make traditional cinema settings challenging. These screenings involve adjustments like low lighting and freedom to move around, encouraging a more relaxed atmosphere.
