Capturing the Brain: Engaging the Mind to Strengthen the Relationship“Capturing the brain” is the art of influencing a horse’s mental and emotional state by thoughtfully directing their movement. By controlling the feet, speed, and direction, we engage the horse’s thinking side and redirect their focus back to the rider or handler. When the mind is engaged, anxiety decreases, and the relationship begins to grow.
In this two-day clinic at Grand View Ranch, participants will explore how purposeful movement creates safety, connection, and responsiveness. Riders will learn how to recognize when their horse is mentally present versus emotionally reactive—and how to use clear, consistent guidance to build trust and understanding.
This is not about dominating a horse’s movement. It is about influencing it with intention, timing, and feel—so that both horse and rider feel confident and secure.
