On Thursday, November 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., Rob Shaw Framing and Gallery will host areception and open house to debut a substantial collection of Shaw’s newest paintings.
Guests can enjoy hors d’ouevres and beverages while viewing the artist’s latest works, all of
which will be available for sale throughout the holiday season.
Shaw‘s newest palette knife paintings showcase the City of Columbia and the South Carolina
coast. Many depict water with reflections and juxtapose thick textures against smooth surfaces.
To achieve a cohesive surface blend, Shaw typically completes each work in a single long
session, while the paint is still wet. Though in recent years he has been painting in acrylics, this
show marks the return of his signature large-scale oil paintings.
A native of Columbia, Shaw earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art from the University of
South Carolina. His paintings appear in many private collections across the United States and
in Europe. In addition to appearing at Rob Shaw’s gallery, his work can be found locally in First
Citizens Bank and The Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties.
Rob Shaw Framing and Gallery is a full-service frame shop and fine art gallery located at 2123
Park Street in Columbia, just off Elmwood Avenue. Visitors may park on Park street or in the
nearby Village Church lot. Gift certificates purchased at the gallery may be used for art
purchases or framing services.
Since it opened in April of 2019, Shaw’s gallery has showcased the work of many South
Carolina artists. In 2024, the gallery moved to its current downtown Columbia location.
