About this Event

Professional kayaker, standup paddler, photographer, and author Rob Casey presents his updated guidebook "Paddling the Salish Sea."

This comprehensive guide covers everything from the quiet inlets of the South Sound to an entirely new section featuring the fjords, waterfalls, and local waterways around Vancouver, B.C. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced paddlers all can find beautiful, rewarding routes for their skill levels.

Rob will discuss updates for this edition and will present a few new and older trips. He will also discuss beach cleanups and a few environmental changes since the last book edition in 2012.

He has been paddling since 2000 starting with sea kayaking, later adding whitewater and surf kayaking. He became a pioneer in establishing stand up paddling in the Northwest later authoring "Stand Up Paddling Flat Water to Surf and Rivers" and founding the Professional Stand Up Paddle Association (PSUPA). In 2010, he started his paddling school Salmon Bay Paddle. He also works as a photographer focusing on conservation and adventure. In his free time he loves to downwind and surf freighter waves with his surf ski near his home in Ballard.

You can find Rob on Instagram @salmonbaypaddle and @robcaseyphoto, and on Facebook in the Paddling the Salish Sea group or at Salmon Bay Paddle.North Cascades Institute envisions healthy Northwest ecosystems where all communities and species thrive. Our mission is to inspire environmental stewardship through transformative learning experiences in nature. Since 1986, we have helped connect people, nature and community through the hands-on study of the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest.
