Come learn about and participate in the Scottish Gaelic tradition of waulking the tweed! Waulking is an ancient custom of fulling cloth while singing work songs as the cloth is beaten rhythmically on a table. You’ll be amazed by the transformation of a scratchy, loosely woven wool cloth into a softer, thicker cloth as the weave tightens.Members of Slighe nan Gàidheal, Washington’s Scottish Gaelic society, have been waulking cloth since October 1995. The group has studied the songs and waulking techniques with tradition-bearers from Scotland and Cape Breton, and developed its own tradition that it believes to be true to Scottish Gaelic heritage.
The date for this event is soon to come.
