The Western Pennsylvania Bleeding Disorders Foundation (WPBDF) supports more than 700 families across 26 counties in Western Pennsylvania. Membership is free for individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders. Bleeding disorders are conditions that make it difficult for the body to form blood clots properly, which can lead to prolonged or unexpected bleeding after injuries, surgeries, or even everyday activities. Some bleeding episodes can happen without a clear cause. Disorders such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease can range from mild to severe and often require lifelong care. WPBDF provides financial assistance to families in need and offers educational programs, support groups, and community events that help individuals and families build connections and access critical resources.
Our celebrity bartender, Mindy Perry, is a dedicated member of the bleeding disorders community and mother to a 9-year-old son with Hemophilia A. A former WPBDF Board member and Fundraising Committee Chair, Mindy remains actively involved in Foundation programs and events, including the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk. Her son’s favorite event each year is Camp Hot-to-Clot, a summer camp where children affected by bleeding disorders and their siblings can make lasting friendships and experience activities they may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy, all in a safe and supportive environment.
