About this Event
π In her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer writes, "Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond."
π In April, we'll gather to sing songs for and about Earth, remembering our belonging to the land, water, air, and one another!
Our tithe (10% of donations) for this circle will support the Virginia Free Farm, an Indigenous-led mutual aid farm in Kents Store.
About the Circle:
πriver city sing is a community song circle at Living Water Community Center, hosted by Kelley Doyle. Surrounded by a bee sanctuary filled with native plants and a produce garden, we gather to connect to our voices, our breath, and with one another! This isn't a choir or chorus but a circle of folks singing together - no musical experience is necessary.
~ Above all, community singing is for all. ~
Your voice is welcomed, needed, and cherished.
Kelley will share songs by beginning with their lyrics, then teaching the songs a capella (without instruments) through call-and-echo, gradually building as we go. We repeat them several times to let the words & sound sink in. They focus on themes of love, kinship with the Earth, and self-compassion β little pocket songs we carry to encourage & comfort ourselves and one another.
We'll begin in circle, find grounding through breath and easeful movement, sing, and close. Bring a mug if you'd like some tea!
This event is donation-based and free spots are available.
