About this Event

LIVE and LIVE STREAMED: FRIDAY, March 13, 2026 7:30 p.m.

Live in-person and live streamed from the stunning Ripley Chapel at First Congregational Church, Winchester. Dedicated to the immigrant experience, please join us for Syldason, a duo concert featuring Sylvie Zakarian, marimba and Daniela Tosic, voice.

Taking inspiration from their shared cultural heritage, Syldason strives to honor a long tradition of movement of people in search of a safer and more prosperous life.

Sylvie and Daniela grew up on the Balkan Peninsula in an era of relative political stability yet overshadowed by the heavy cloud of the Cold War. With this program, Syldason hopes to present shared elements of the human experience, bridging the space between us. You will hear music in folk and classical traditions from a wide range of Balkan composers throughout the ages, including works by Gomidas, Hovhanness, Minkin, Radan, Tantchev, and Tassone.

SYLVIE ZAKARIAN, marimba, has played in England, her native Bulgaria, and the United States, including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Berklee Performing Center, and Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. She is a Conservatory Faculty of the Longy School of Music of Bard College, Chair of Woodwind, Brass and Percussion at the Winchester Community Music School and an affiliate instructor at Harvard University.

Mezzo-soprano DANIELA TOSIC, praised for her “burnished and warm sound” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and “dark, lustrous voice” (Boston Classical Review), is a soloist and a chamber musician who specializes in early, contemporary, and world music repertories. She has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and South America and has recorded for Telarc, MDG, Kalan and several independent labels.

Concert tickets are $20, general admission – both live and live-streamed.

Student tickets are $5, with valid student ID-both live and livestreamed.
