Samba New York! is offering a samba tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for Carnaval 2025, and you're invited! This will be a special opportunity to visit the capital of samba with the directors of Samba New York! — Philip and Valerie Galinsky — as your personal guides, immerse yourself in samba culture, and experience Rio's world famous Carnaval!Arrive in Rio Monday, February 24, 2025
Depart Rio Monday, March 3, 2025
Included in Trip Fee:
1) Three workshops with master samba percussionists
2) A costume to parade (dance/march) on one night with a 2nd division samba school for Carnaval in the Sambadrome (opportunity to play in the bateria instead for those who qualify on caixa or repinique)
3) A ticket to see one night of the 1st division (Grupo Especial) samba school parades for Carnaval in the Sambadrome
4) Accompaniment by Philip and/or Valerie to optional activities
Trip Fee: US $2,200.00
• 50% deposit ($1,100) due by Friday, December 13, 2024
• 50% balance ($1,100) due by Monday, January 27, 2025

The Trip Fee is due in its entirety by Monday, January 27, 2025.
The Trip Fee (including both any deposit or balance payments) is 100% nonrefundable, except in the event that Samba New York! cancels the trip, in which case all participants will be refunded in full any amount of the Trip Fee they may have already paid.
Not Included in Trip Fee:
• Airfare
• Housing
• Passport/visa (visa not required for US citizens during trip)
• Airport transfers and all additional transportation
• Meals and all other food and drink
• Any additional workshops or lessons
• Any other activities (incl. those marked “optional” below)
• All other expenses
Trip Schedule (subject to change):
Mon. 2/24:
Arrive in Rio (transfers can be arranged ahead of time with Samba New York!); Copacabana Beach in afternoon (optional); Samba do Trabalhador roda de samba at night (optional).
Tues. 2/25:
Free morning; Percussion Workshop #1 in afternoon (teacher TBD); Pagode da Garagem roda de samba at night (optional).
Wed. 2/26:
Free morning; music shops in afternoon (optional); Percussion Workshop #2 in evening (teacher TBD).
Thurs. 2/27:
Visit Christ Statue or Sugar Loaf Mountain in morning (optional); Percussion Workshop #3 in afternoon (teacher TBD); free evening.
Fri. 2/28:
Free morning/afternoon; samba clubs in the neighborhood of Lapa at night (optional).
Sat. 3/1:
Free morning/afternoon; parade (dance/march) with 2nd division samba school in the Sambadrome at night (opportunity to play in the bateria instead for those who qualify on caixa or repinique).
Sun. 3/2:
Free morning/afternoon; watch first night of 1st division (Grupo Especial) samba school parades in the Sambadrome at night.
Mon. 3/3:
Tour ends.
